The Security Studies Track deals with Risks and threats in the new global security environment. Since September 2011 the global security paradigm has been constantly and significantly changing. While terrorism was designated the main enemy of the Western world, which led to an impressive increase of the institutions and resources dedicated to combating it, organised crime remains a global threat and the political instability of some states or regions creates the danger of conflicts being transposed to a regional or global level. In some states political power went to the political fundamentalists, while the economic crisis is becoming more of an overarching threat due to its effects on defence and security budgets. In this context the question we pose is whether the classical approach of national and international security is still a valid theoretical model?
